Online Blackjack

Blackjack is considered to be one of the most popular table games at a casino, very exciting and very easy to learn. Once you have mastered the basic game of Blackjack and familiarised yourself with all the rules and terms, you will then be ready to tackle the challenge of the variants of this game, of which there are many. Here you will find the basic terms of the classic blackjack game.

The Aim Of Online Blackjack

The aim of Blackjack is to attain a score of 21 (or as close to this number as possible). You are ultimately competing against the dealer who has to abide by strict rules set by the casino house. You goal is to beat the dealer which can be achieved in two ways. If you get closer to 21 than the dealer without busting (that is going over 21) - you win, or if the dealer goes over 21 and you don't - you win. When choosing which Blackjack table to play at always check the minimum and maximum bets allowed.

Card Values For Online Blackjack

All picture cards i.e. Jack, Queen and King have a value of 10. All other cards from 2-10 have a face value of exactly what the card shows. And an Ace has a value of 1 or 11. A typical Blackjack would be 2 cards - one an Ace and the other with a value of 10.

Playing Online Blackjack

The majority of tables at an online casino display all the necessary information you need to begin playing. This will include: The minimum and maximum bets allowed, the basic odds of a blackjack i.e. they pay 3 to 2 (most casinos) the dealers stand rule (i.e the dealer will have to stand on 17) this means he cannot take any more cards. You place your bet in the position on the table provided and press the "deal" button. The dealer will then deal you two cards face up, and he then deals himself the first card face up and the second card face down. Here is when you decide what you are going to do.

Terms in Online Blackjack

Stand - This means that you do not wish to take any more cards - you are happy with what you have been dealt or you think the dealer might go bust (over 21).

Hit - This means that you the player would like an additional card to add to your existing hand.

Split - If you have been dealt two cards with the same value (i.e. a pair of Kinds) you can split them into two separate hands. An additional bet is required for the new hand which is normally equal to your first bet. The Blackjack odds would then change but each casino has its own rules on this and would be shown when you place your bet.

Winning Hand in Blackjack

If the dealer has a blackjack and you don't, he will automatically win. A "10 value" card is the most valuable as there are more cards in the pack with the value of 10 than any other card. Bearing this in mind if the dealer's face up card is a 10 or an Ace, there is a good chance he is going to get blackjack if he draws another 10 value card. You will then, based on his hand decide how you are going to play with the terms above, i.e. Stand or Hit. If both you and the dealer have a blackjack, then it is called a "push" which means nobody wins but you get your bet back. So to recap, the dealer has to stand if his hand is 17 or more. If the dealer busts, you win. If your hand is higher than the dealers (without going over 21) then you win. And vice versa for the dealer. There are many more terms used in the Blackjack arena like Insurance, Double downs etc., but these you will learn as you become more proficient at the game. Lots of casinos will offer you "how to play blackjack" options online, it is well worth having a practice run at this before deciding on your strategy for playing.
